Can you believe it's already time for Canada Day 2025? If you're like me, you're probably thinking about where to go, what to do, and—let's be honest—how to skip the stress and just enjoy the day with family and friends. Whether you’re staying close to home in Mississauga or heading into Toronto, I’ve got you covered with everything from open spots and events to the best places to catch fireworks.

And hey, if you're planning a BBQ, get-together, or just want to come home to a clean space after the fun, don’t miss the 30% off cleaning offer from Taskopus I’m sharing at the end!

What’s Open on Canada Day?

Mississauga Hot Spots:

  • Celebration Square – This is the heartbeat of our city on July 1st. Think live music, multicultural food trucks, dancing kids, and a huge fireworks finale. Definitely my top pick!
  • Port Credit Memorial Park – A quieter place to relax, walk by the lake, and maybe grab ice cream at Dairy Cream on Lakeshore.
  • Jack Darling Park – Nature lovers, this one’s for you. Great for picnics and lake views with the family.

Toronto Favourites:

  • CN Tower – If you’ve got guests from out of town, it’s open and makes for an unforgettable experience.
  • Ripley's Aquarium – Family fun, especially if the weather plays spoilsport.
  • Toronto Islands – Pack a blanket, rent a bike, or just roam around with ferry access running all day.

Where to Shop & Eat:

  • Square One – Open from 11AM to 6PM; perfect if you need to do a last-minute outfit pick or grab a bite.
  • Distillery District – Boutique shops and patios open, with local performers and street vibes!

What’s Closed on Canada Day?

Just a heads-up so you’re not surprised:

  • Government offices and banks – Closed.
  • Canada Post – No mail today.
  • Most clinics and libraries – Closed unless specified otherwise.
  • Smaller businesses – Check ahead before you go.

Things to Do on Canada Day

Mississauga Celebrations:

  • Celebration Square – Activities start early and go till the grand fireworks finale at 10 PM. They usually have a splash pad too!
  • Streetsville Parade – If you enjoy local charm and traditional floats, this is a cozy way to start your morning.

Toronto Events Worth Checking Out:

  • Harbourfront Centre – Art, dance, and lots of live music. Plus, you can’t beat the lakefront breeze.
  • Ontario Place – Paddleboats, kid zones, and evening lights make it perfect for families.
  • East York Parade – A classic community parade with a lot of heart.

Where to Watch Fireworks on Canada Day

Mississauga:

  • Celebration Square – Always big, always beautiful.
  • Port Credit – Smaller, but lovely by the water.

Toronto:

  • Ashbridges Bay – The go-to for big city lights and lake views.
  • Downsview Park – More space, family-friendly, with live events before the big show.
  • Mel Lastman Square – Good for locals in North York.

Tip from me: Bring a mat, arrive early, and pack snacks! Oh, and maybe bug spray...

Getting Around: Transit & Closures

  • TTC & MiWay – Sunday/holiday schedule. Plan ahead.
  • GO Transit – Running, but with some changes to service times.
  • Road Closures – Expect delays near big venues. I usually park farther and enjoy the walk!
